Homemade Bread, Yum!

Post by retiredEE »

Anyone interested in making homemade sourdough bread?

I've perfected my recipe and bake a loaf every 5 to 7 days. It is easier than you think and only take 3 ingredients; water flour and salt. The starter is just flour and water and of course is something you need to keep handy for every bake.

I'm glad to share a starter sample to get you going.

OMG, I dreamt I baked bread last night and finding this forum today is an unexpected and delightful coincidence. My dear Oma made sourdough for us when we were growing up and I always wanted to give it a try. I'm going to order a bread baking Dutch oven today and will be ready to give it try in a few days. Thanks for the nudge. SuzyQ

Hi SuzyQ, Great to hear you are about to start your sourdough adventure. It really is the best tasting, more nutritious than yeast bread, and the crust is just wonderful. The last few months I have been using bakery bags to store and share my sourdough bread. Just check Amazon for bakery bags, they have a good selection. As soon as the bread cools enough to handle, I put it into a bakery bag and leave the bag open on the stove to finish cooling. The bags work great closed in the refrig too, and the crustiness lasts for days. If you take 2 loafs of home baked sourdough to a party in bakery bags you are sure to be a hit. Let me know when you need some starter. kindest regards, retiredEE

I just bought the Kook Dutch Oven with Lid $56 on Amazon, cyber Monday deal 20% off. It looks like the same Dutch oven my Oma used. It should be here late Monday. And thanks for the bakery bag tip. SuzyQ

Hey, SuzyQ That's a great fine at that price. I'm considering in ordering one so I can bake 2 loafs at the same time. You might want to check out the silicon bread slings at Amazon as well. The 5 Star Moon brand has a nice video showing Sourdough Perfection using their sling and eliminating the parchment paper hassle.

Hi All, Well it turns out that one of my friends at work bakes her own sourdough bread and we baked at her house last night. She sent half the loaf home with me and its incredible. I'm planning a solo bake by the end of this week. The Dutch oven arrived and its very well made 5 stars.
